THE SAMU LEGACY

40 Years of global humanitarian action

Since its founding in 1981, the SAMU family has grown into a globally recognized institution in emergency medicine, health services, and social care. What started as a pioneering medical rescue team in Seville, Spain, has evolved into an international network of thousands of professionals dedicated to protecting vulnerable communities all of them bonded by the same goal: savings lives and supporting people in need.

SAMU was the first organisation in Spain to introduce mobile ICU's in their territory.

Pioneers by Nature

We don’t just follow standards; we set them. Our entrepreneurial spirit is rooted in a history of being “the first.”

SAMU made history as the first organization in Spain to introduce and operate Mobile Intensive Care Units (MICUs). Long before it was the norm, we were already bringing the hospital to the street, proving that innovation is the most effective tool for saving lives.

Global Expertise

Our specialized teams operate across the globe, bringing elite medical and social care to where it is needed most. From the immediate deployment of rapid-response field hospitals during acute natural disasters—such as the devastating earthquakes in Turkey & Syria in 2023—to managing large-scale, long-term care facilities, SAMU’s mission is to be on the front lines when it matters most.

This global reach is what gives Givecycle the unique ability to turn your local contributions into immediate, life-saving impact on a world stage.

Local Action in the DMV AREA

Right here in the United States, SAMU International acts as our on-the-ground operational force. Headquartered in the Washington D.C. area, our teams provide immediate, life-saving support—including emergency sheltering, medical assistance, and vital resources—to arriving migrants, asylum seekers, and communities affected by domestic emergencies.

Givecycle is the local sustainability engine that helps fund and make this massive humanitarian effort possible. Every time you recycle with us, you are directly backing a 40-year legacy of saving lives.
